Cheyenne, Wyoming – February 9, 2022– BlackFog, the leader in on-device data privacy, data security and ransomware prevention, today announced it has expanded its leadership team by adding David Schnurstein as Director of Threat Intelligence. This new role will support the company as it enters a new period of increased momentum and growth.
Bringing more than 25 years of experience in law enforcement, Schnurstein will serve as a virtual CISO for BlackFog to support forensic investigations with the Threat Intelligence department. His contributions will provide fully managed fractional CISO expertise to small to medium sized businesses through BlackFog’s newly introduced Virtual CISO (vCISO) offering.
“We’re thrilled to welcome David to the team,” said Doug Lubahn, BlackFog VP of Threat Intelligence. “His extensive background with law enforcement and proven track record will play an integral role in ensuring our latest product, vCISO, ensures data privacy and security for SMBs who often don’t have the resources available to employ dedicated teams. Prior to joining BlackFog, Schnurstein spent more than two decades in a number of positions in law enforcement, most recently serving as the Captain and Commander of the Emergency Communications, Records and Technology Division with the Grand Rapids, Michigan Police Department. During his time at the GRPD, Schnurstein was also designated the local Chief Security Officer where he was responsible for ensuring GRPD was in compliance with the State of Michigan and FBI Criminal Justice Information Services security policy, as well as ensuring the security of law enforcement data and networks.
Schnurstein also serves as a member in Fight Crime Invest in Kids, an organization designed to inform the public and policymakers about the need for high-quality early education programs, prevention of child abuse and after-school programs for children and teens in order to disrupt the prison pipeline. He also acts as President of Caledonia Education Foundation, a 501c3 education foundation that fundraises and awards grants to school staff seeking additional funding.
“I am thrilled to join BlackFog, an industry leader paving the way with truly disruptive technology that prevents unauthorized data exfiltration,” said Schnurstein. “This role plays perfectly into my expertise and passions, and I look forward to supporting BlackFog’s continued momentum with the launch of the new vCISO offering.”
