When installing BlackFog on a damaged Windows 7 or later computer you may get error code 12029 reported from the installer. The installer checks for a viable machine before installing and so when it sees it is damaged it will halt installation.
This error indicates that your system has a damaged Internet Explorer installation which can be any of the following reasons.
- Corrupt download or incomplete installation of Internet Explorer software.
- Corruption in Windows registry from a recent Internet Explorer-related software change (install or uninstall).
- Virus or malware infection that has corrupted Windows system files or Internet Explorer-related program files.
- Another program maliciously or mistakenly deleted Internet Explorer-related files.
One way you can try to recover from this error is by using the built-in system integrity check as follows:
To run System File Checker (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10):
- Click the Start button.
- Type “command” in the search box… DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
- While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
- You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
- Click Yes.
- A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
- Type “sfc /scannow” and hit ENTER.
- System File Checker will begin scanning for Error 12029 and other system file problems (be patient – the system scan may take a while).
- Follow the on-screen commands.
If you still have trouble after this you may already have a malware infection and suggest you use Windows Security Essentials to resolve the issue before trying again.
